OUR MISSION
The African American Leadership Academy of Charlotte intentionally equips, empowers, and advances local Black professionals to strengthen the impact and pipeline of executive and C-suite leaders for the public, private and philanthropic sectors.

The Academy’s vision is to expand the number and impact of African American leaders in our community by creating a safe, supportive space that fosters acceleration and growth.
OUR WHY
We know that we need various voices in leadership in order to have a strong, vibrant community...and more than just a few. The Academy is built on the premise that we must be intentional about highlighting and cultivating top-tier leaders, to ensure that there is a continuous pipeline of leaders for corporate, community and philanthropic impact.
Building the Pipeline
The Academy is developing a strong bench of leaders who will shape and strengthen the pipeline of leadership in the private, public and philanthropic sectors of our community. The Academy is a key resource for top-tier talent, who are being equipped and empowered to advance into influential roles.
Strengthening Local Companies
According to a report by McKinsey, “Companies in the top quartile for ethnic and cultural representation on executive teams were 36% more likely to outperform on profitability compared to those in the bottom quartile.” The Academy is meeting the need of identifying and distinguishing leaders.
Cultivating with Intentionality
The Academy creates a safe space for thoughtful preparation, honest discussion and insightful planning, undergirded by knowledge of the unique headwinds that our leaders often face. Guided by a research-based curriculum, experienced instructors and insight from other C-suite leaders, the program focuses on intentional strategies for leaders that fost growth, achievement and success.
Fostering a Thriving Community
The Academy contributes to the leadership development mosaic, creating a thriving, prosperous community. Our effort helps ensure that there are key voices at the “community table” to provide varied perspectives, drive innovation, and offer rich input into initiatives that improve the Charlotte region. The Academy builds leaders who are primed to inspire trust, collaboration, and social cohesion while addressing key challenges and fostering economic growth.
